About the course

This two-day hands-on intensive is designed for individuals with little or mixed Scrum experience. It is a worthy investment for those who want to fast-track their understanding and explore Scrum in a fun and practical way so that you can use it effectively on your next project. Participants learn how to use Scrum to achieve rapid delivery of high quality outputs, in tight timeframes and a constantly changing world of business priorities. This training course prepares you for a leadership role within the Scrum team and provides the option to formally test your knowledge by sitting the Professional Scrum Master (PSM1) certification assessment from scrum.org.

We take a different approach to training and use our own agilePete mind mapping app and iPads instead of powerpoint to provide course information digitally so you can personalise it as you learn. We never cancel a course, once you’re booked to attend, the course is guaranteed to go ahead.

Key takeaways

  • Scrum Values & Principles: Explore the rationale behind the Scrum agile approach

  • New Roles & Responsibilities: Meet the Product Owner, Scrum Master and Dev Team

  • The Sprint: Facilitate a disciplined, time-boxed, iterative, team based delivery process

  • Product Backlog: Visually create a story map, size, prioritise and schedule the work

  • Definition of Ready: Refine user stories so they are ready for development in the next sprint

  • Definition of Done: Accept user stories as done and track release progress

  • Servant Leadership: Learn the skills to coach your team and organisation be more agile

Note: The Scrum Master course is based on the rules, events, and roles as described in the official Scrum Guide 2017, the acknowledged Scrum body of knowledge.

Learning support

Bring another member of your project team and you will both receive our 20% Agile Buddy discount. We have found that if you have an immediate sounding board for your new ideas you are more likely to apply what you learned in the real world context of your own project.

If you are seeking a formal qualification this course will also prepare you to confidently sit your Professional Scrum Master exam after the course. The exam is independently certified by scrum.org.

We give everyone that completes our training course our personal commitment to support your ongoing agile learning. We are always available via email for general questions about anything agile related and by cell phone if you have an issue that needs an immediate answer. But be warned, you may become as equally passionate about agile as we are!

The Venue

The course is run at the iconic and beautiful Te Papa with full catering provided. Te Papa is centrally located on the stunning Wellington waterfront. There are plenty of parking spaces available and we have a special rate of $10 per day for course attendees.
